Greetings to everyone!

As a composer, it is a strange thing to send music out into the world, knowing that one needs to trust that the musicians that will perform it will treat it with great care. I have been very encouraged in past years by all of the student bands which have shown my music great respect, and have given it many truly stellar performances. I trust that you will do the same, and I can't wait to hear the results!

This new year, and this new music, gives us another chance to rise to higher levels than ever before. It is with this in mind that I am reaching out to every single one of you, challenging you to work harder, practice more diligently, and come to rehearsals ready to play the music flawlessly, with great enthusiasm, and swinging as hard as you can. I only wish that I could be there with you to hear it in person.

Two things will make this tune come alive: A) the "and-of-2" and "and-of-4" pushes, and B) note length, especially all of the "be-bop" figures (ex. Measure1 beat 3.)

A) - The "and-of 2"/"and-of-4" is accented, or "pushed" - gently, not too aggressively, just an easy bump - it is what makes this feel. It should be very relaxed and swinging, but not dragging or lazy.

B) - The "be-bop" figure is part of the basic vocabulary of jazz - it is found everywhere, all the time. Played properly, this has much to do with making the music swing. Concentrate on getting the "long-short" consistent, with the "long" note just slightly accented. In this piece I have marked them all, but this should be your approach every time you see this figure, whether it is marked or not.

Both of these happen over and over during the tune, so making sure that the feel of these phrases is consistent through the entire piece is the key.

グラミー賞ノミネートの作曲家・プロデューサー・コンダクター・キーボード奏者であるウォーリー・ミンコは、以下のアーティストと共演、ツアー、レコーディングを重ねてきた。ポップスターではBarry Manilow、Tom Jones、Deneice Williams、R&BアーティストではPink、Toni Braxton、En Vogue、New Edition、Exposé、ジャズではJean-Luc Ponty、Arturo Sandoval、プログレのスターであるYESのJon Anderson、ロックの殿堂入りしたGregg Rolie（Santana、 Journey）などなど。ウォーリーの楽曲は偉大なスターアーティストのレコーディングで頻繁に使われている。Jon Anderson、Arturo Sandoval、Gianmarco、Debbie Allen、Wayne Bergeron、Gary Grant、Dan Forneroなどなど。加えて、ウォーリーは数え切れないほどのジャズやコーラスアンサンブルへの楽曲提供を行なっている。以下にそのハイライトを紹介する。2013年にArturo SandovalのCD「Dear Diz」収録「A Night In Tunisia」が、グラミー賞ベストインスツルメンタル編曲賞にノミネート。編曲家・ピアニスト・キーボード奏者として参加したGianmarco「Versiones」はラテングラミー賞において年間最優秀アルバムにノミネート。Debbie Allen「Hot Chocolate Nutcracker」のオリジナルスコア作曲者の一人として、 James Ingram、Mariah Carey、Quincy Jones、Arturo Sandoval、Thumpらとともに参加。2015−2016年はThe Blackhawk Chorus の常駐アレンジャーを務めた。ウォーリーは売れっ子クリニシャンでもあり、全米の大学や高校でジャズ演奏、インプロヴィゼーション、作編曲などの指導にあたっている。ロサンゼルス在住で、スタジオにおいてアクティブに活動している。2019年ステラジャム課題曲「MIXED MESSAGES」の作曲者。
